Chapter Profile

The Oregon and Southwest Washington Chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association was founded in 1992. The chapter serves as a forum for professionals and students to meet, share ideas, and discuss local issues. The local chapter is part of the international Urban & Regional Information Systems Association.

Chapter Bylaws

The local chapter is guided by a set of Chapter By Laws. The By laws were developed by the local chapter and are periodically amended to reflect changes in the local chapter. View the Chapter Bylaws (PDF File). 

International Organization

The Oregon and S.W. Washington Chapter of URISA International is a local chapter of the parent International Organization. Founded in 1963, the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association is comprised of  professionals dedicated to the application of information technology for decision making. These professionals include users, developers and providers of information management technology and services in the private sector and in all levels of government. URISA's mission is to:

  1. Support and provide education,

  2. Foster communication among professionals, and to

  3. Encourage the effective application of information technology and its integration in an enterprise information environment.

GIS Certification - GISP

A GISP is a certified geographic information systems (GIS) Professional who has met the minimum standards for ethical conduct and professional practice as established by the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI).  We encourage Chapter members to apply for GIS Certification at the GIS Certification Institute.

Chapter Maturity Assessment

Each year OR-URISA completes what referred to as a Chapter Maturity Assessment (CMA). The CMA is an excellent tool for both the local chapter and URISA International to document what has accomplished during the past year. View the 2010 Chapter Maturity Assessment
