The OIT GIS Service Center will be hosting two ESRI authorized training sessions during the week of Dec. 12-16, 2005 here on the OIT campus.

Dec. 12-13:  Introduction to ArcGIS I; instructor - Dr. John Ritter/Aspen GIS Services, Inc. ($625/person)

Dec. 14-16:  Working with ArcGIS Spatial Analyst; instructor - Mr. Chris Wayne/Mazama Mapping ($895/person)

ESRI is the world's leader in the production of GIS software.  These courses are exactly the same classes as that offered by ESRI at any one of their training centers.

Introduction to ArcGIS I is an introductory class that demonstrates the power and utility of GIS analyses.  Working with ArcGIS Spatial Analyst will provide you with the training necessary to work with raster datasets and perform spatial modeling.  Each presentation in each class will be followed by an exercise that demonstrates/reinforces the concepts discussed.

These courses will utilize ESRI's latest software version, ArcGIS 9.1.  For each course you will receive a book containing the text/graphics of all of the class presentations as well as a separate book containing the various exercises (and data) you will be working through.  You may register for one, or both courses.

There are several attachments.  A course description for each class offering as well as several maps that clue you in to where the training will be held (Rm 130b, Owens Hall on the OIT campus).

Registration is simple.  Either contact me (John Ritter 541-885-1495) directly by phone, or email me (John.Ritter@oit.edu) with the following information:

As most of you know, last year we (KBUG) became a section of the Oregon chapter of URISA (www.orurisa.org).  One of the upshots of this is that we get this website.  The other big benefit of ORURISA membership is that they provide funding to the various sections.  We have two small pots of money to spend this year:

1-- $150-$300 for meetings.  This can be spent on food, speaker fees, equipment/vehicle rentals, etc.-- anything that helps with our meetings.  If anyone has suggestions for the next and future meetings, throw them out there!

2-- up to $500 for various member development scholarships.  These could be spent on a stipend for members pursuing their GIS certification (www.gisci.org) or to send someone to GIS in Action for the first time.  GIS in Action is the annual ORURISA conference in Portland.  It is two days, sometime in early spring.  I have been to the last few and found it to be a great event.  Last year's program is at

If anyone is interested they can contact me directly by phone or e-mail.
