Poster Session

Call for posters!

You can now submit your posters for the poster session at the conference.

Here's a chance to show your fellow GIS Professionals what you have been working on! Register and then bring your maps to GIS in Action 2012 to show them off at the Poster Session during Wednesday evening's Vendor Social. Message from Poster Chair:

Dear Poster Registrants,

I'm delighted that you are interested in presenting a poster at the GIS
in Action conference. Over the past week, I've learned more about the
placement, dimensions, and other requirements for showing off your
mapping abilities. Although minor details may change, please use the
following to prepare your poster for the conference.

~ To arrive: The poster boards will be ready by Tuesday (3/13) morning
(~8AM) -- please set up your poster after that time, but no later than
Tuesday afternoon. We will have a conference volunteer to guide you to
the appropriate location, and mechanics of setting up.

~ To bring: You posters sized to the appropriate dimensions. We are able
to accommodate landscape and portrait layouts, but no larger than
36"(in.) by 44"(in.). Each poster hanging board will contain clips for
you to hang your posters -- you will have two clips per poster board to
hang your posters. Please do not use tacks or other devices can damage
the poster boards.

~ To send: Please send me your name, poster title, and organization you
represent. If you do not represent an organization, then describe an
organization that would be interested in your poster.

~ To clean: In years past, several posters were left after the
conference, and the organizers had much heart-break when placing them in
the recycling bin. Please make sure to pick up your poster after the

~ To advise: Since I've already seen some of the posters, I suspect the
competition for winning prizes will be stiff. When designing your
poster, consider the fundamentals of visual communication, which
includes logical flow, scaling for legibility, and balancing text,
graphics, and white space. Again, we'll have several categories for
winning posters, including: technical merit, collaborative GIS, 'real
world' problem solving, and, the popular, 'spatial choice award.'

Please send me an email if you have any questions -- I will be traveling
out of the country (China for work) over the next week, but I will have
occasional access to email and can try to address any pressing
concerns/questions as needed.

Thanks again, and best wishes!
Vivek
