Meeting Minutes
Introduction of members and projects
The meeting began by featuring updates from area agencies on their
respective digital aerial photography data.
- John Patrick of the Bureau of Land Management talked about their
aerial photos. Hard copies can be obtained through the BLM office in Roseburg.
The Roseburg area was flown most recently.
- Nikki Borges from the City of Roseburg presented aerial photos of the
City of Roseburg. The coverage is the City's Urban Growth Boundary. Photo
taken in
March of 1998. Digital photo in NAD 83/91. Hard copies and digital copies
can be
purchased from the City of Roseburg.
- Terrie Franssen of the Douglas County Surveyors Office had aerial
photos of the County. The Surveyor's Office had the southern half of the County
flown over the Summer and will have the north half of the County flown by next
year. The southern County prints are available for scanning.
- Ed Hall of the Forest Service talked about the digital
ortho-quads of the
Umpqua National Forest (Eastern Douglas County). Their DOQs are
periodically updated.
The new photos are at 1 meter resolution.
- Chris Wayne of UR-COG talked about their digital orthophotography
of all
cities except Roseburg. The flight was in September 1999, and contact
prints have
been delivered, but no digital images yet.
Feature Presentation: Microstation/ArcView data sharing.
A presentation was given by Tony Bass and Kathy Thompson from the Douglas
County Planning Office. County parcel data is created in Microstation,
and this data is shared by other agencies that use ESRI's ArcView (and
other GIS applications). They discussed the process and problems associated
with data sharing across software platforms.
Election for New Officers--the new elected officers follow:
- President: Eric Lanning

- Treasurer: Kathy Thompson, Douglas County Engineering
- Web Master: Ed Hall, USFS
- Board Representative: Tony Bass, Douglas County Planning
- Membership Development: George Day, DFPA
- Activities Planning (for the Winter UBUG meeting): Jon Phillip,
RUSA; Chuck Perino, UR-COG
Jon Phillip of Roseburg Urban Sanitary Authority (RUSA) talked
about their project, which includes mapping sewer infrastructure and creating
a database complete with photo images and drawings.
Preview of Winter UBUG meeting (sometime in late February)
- Speaker from CH2MHill in Corvallis to talk about the RUSA project
as described above.
- Product demos-possibly for ESRI's ArcView 3.2 and/or ArcInfo 8, and
Geomedia applications.
- Extended preview of Spring UBUG: Greet the nice weather with some
GPS field work!
