Women in GIS Goals for this project:

  • To create a presentation for GIS DAY 2000 aimed at 6th and 7th graders
  • To bring local GIS professionals into classrooms to connect with students
  • To educate 1000 local area students about GISI

By the end of November, 48 separate school GIS Day presentations had taken place at 16 different schools educating more than 1500 students as well as teachers, principals and assistants. Three additional schools with 420 eager students have presentations pending. Thirty-two presenters from all over the Portland area (and a couple from beyond) gave their time and energy to give the presentations in the schools.   This number includes 13 Women in GIS “members” but does not include those women who were very involved with the creation of the presentation or helped promote GIS Day at the In-Service Day Social Studies Conference in Salem in October 2000.
